Hiking Prescott with The Hike Shack

When it comes time to boulder in Groom Creek, hike in Prescott National Forest, or overnight at Lynx Lake, The Hike Shack will have you outfitted in no time.

Originally opened in 2004, current owners and Prescott locals, Amanda Foster, Raigan Fundalewicz and Kam York, took over The Hike Shack in 2011. With a love of Prescott, and appreciation of all things outdoors, The Hike Shack has been able to provide locals and visitors with all of the gear, know-how, and confidence to get outside.

“Our customers range from 2 to 92, and everything in between,” explains Fundalewicz, “so it’s a fun challenge for us to outfit them with whatever gear they need, for whatever adventure or trip they have coming up.”

With a focus on quality service and an expanded offering of backpacks, sleeping bags, climbing gear, and so much more, The Hike Shack has easily been able to fill its shelves with the items that customers need to feel confident as they explore.

Fundalewicz and her brother Toby (Kam’s husband) originally approached Foster, who was doing the buying and managing of The Hike Shack when it came up for sale. The three Prescott locals went to high school together, and had all grown up camping and hiking in the area.

Keeping the name, the trio moved The Hike Shack into a space three times the size of the original store. This allows them to showcase their product offerings and help their customers get exactly what they need.

With roots deep in Prescott, The Hike Shack values being able to support the local community, regularly sponsoring local races, school events, and teams. They have immense pride in Prescott and feel honored they get to parlay their appreciation through the promotion of healthy activities that get people out in nature, all while honoring their beloved husband, brother, and partner, Toby, who they lost due to cancer.

They want locals to feel comfortable when coming to them, so they only hire engaged employees – all outdoor enthusiasts – who are extensively trained so that customers get an educational and personalized service.

If you see an item on the shelf, you better believe that Foster, York, or Fundalewicz uses it on the regular. “We only sell brands we believe in,” they explain.

The knowledgeable staff will help you choose exactly the right tool, piece of equipment, or clothing you need for your next adventure. Specifically, regarding hiking shoes, they’ll take the time to ask questions, assess your gait, stance, and even toes, and find you a pair that will fit you like a dream.

For The Hike Shack owners, getting outside is a way of life. They want to help their customers experience the outdoors, and continue (or grow) to love it, too. With gear designed and built to help people enjoy their adventures, The Hike Shack aims to make sure its customers feel comfortable getting outside and exploring the daily beauty we are surrounded by.
